The Chamonix valley is an exceptional setting, but its mountain environment creates particular conditions: altitude, climate, timber housing and very high tourist numbers.
The mountain climate
Harsh winters drive rodents, wood mice and other small mammals into heated homes from autumn onwards. On the other hand, the wasp and hornet season is shorter than in the lowlands but very intense in August and September. See the season calendar.
Timber homes: an asset and a risk
The chalet, symbol of the region, offers plenty of cavities. Lofts are favourite places for rodents and wasp nests, cladding for new nests in spring.
Tourism and infestations
With millions of visitors every year, the valley is exposed to bed bugs, which travel in luggage and move from one property to the next, especially in holiday rentals.
Call-outs adapted to the terrain
Working in the mountains means knowing the terrain: difficult access, isolated chalets, high hamlets, snow in winter. A local professional knows these constraints and adapts their equipment.
