FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Prices, response times, safety, methods: answers to the questions I am asked most often in the Chamonix valley.

Wasps and hornets

How much does it cost to remove a wasp or hornet nest in Chamonix?

From €109 for a nest 0–2 m high to €199 for 10–15 m. A nest in a roof, loft, wall or under decking costs €139. Each extra nest treated during the same visit costs €30. Travel and the results guarantee are included. All prices include French VAT.

Does the Asian hornet cost more?

No. The price is the same for wasps, European hornets and Asian hornets: only the height and accessibility of the nest count.

Do you come out in emergencies and at weekends?

Yes. In season I come out 7 days a week for wasps and hornets throughout the Chamonix valley, usually within 24 to 48 hours, often faster for a nest near living areas.

Is it dangerous to destroy a nest yourself?

Yes. A disturbed colony can attack as a group and sting several times. Shop-bought sprays used from a distance anger the colony without reaching the heart of the nest. Never block the entrance: the insects would look for another way out, sometimes into the house.

How long does it take?

Usually 20 to 45 minutes on site. Nest activity stops within a few hours; a few insects may keep flying around for a day or two, which is normal.

Do I need to leave the property during treatment?

No. Just keep doors and windows on the nest side closed during the treatment and keep children and pets away. I give you precise instructions on site.

Can the nest come back after treatment?

A treated nest is never reused: the colony dies and the nest stays empty. However, a new queen may build a nest elsewhere the following year. If the nest is not completely destroyed on the first visit, I come back free of charge.

When is the best time to deal with wasps and hornets in the mountains?

As early as possible. In the valley, nests are founded in May and June, grow in July and peak in August and September. A small nest treated in June is simpler and safer than a large one at the end of summer. Colonies die with the first frosts.

What should I do after multiple stings?

Move away from the nest, remove rings and bracelets and apply something cold. Call 15 or 112 straight away if there is difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, a sting in the mouth or many stings.

What if they are bees?

Bees are protected and I never destroy them. A partner beekeeper collects the swarm free of charge. See the bee swarm page.

Asian hornet

How do I recognise an Asian hornet?

It is about 3 cm long, with an almost black body, a single broad orange band on the abdomen and yellow leg tips. The European hornet is bigger, reddish-brown and yellow.

How do I recognise an Asian hornet nest in Chamonix?

The secondary nest is round or pear-shaped, often very high in a tree, sometimes under eaves. It can reach the size of a beach ball and its entrance is on the side. In spring, the primary nest is smaller and lower: shed, garage, under a roof.

Is the Asian hornet present in the Chamonix valley?

It is spreading through the Alpine valleys and is increasingly found in Haute-Savoie. The lower parts of the valley, such as Servoz and Les Houches, are the first concerned. If in doubt, send me a photo.

What should I do if I find a nest?

Stay more than 5 metres away, do not block the entrance, do not throw anything at the nest and do not trim the hedge or tree it is in. Note its position and height and call me.

Can you reach a very high nest?

Yes. My telescopic pole lets me work more than 15 m from the ground, with no cherry picker. The price depends on height: €109 up to 2 m, €149 from 2 to 10 m, €199 from 10 to 15 m.

Bed bugs

How much does bed bug treatment cost?

Chemical treatment costs from €299 (0–40 m²) to €449 (80–120 m²). Thermal treatment costs €499 to €599 depending on the area. Above 120 m², a personalised quote is provided. Diagnosis, two visits, travel and a 6-month guarantee are included.

How do I know if I have bed bugs?

Bites in a line when you wake up, small black spots or blood stains on sheets, shed skins and white eggs in mattress seams. In the Chamonix valley, the flow of visitors through chalets and holiday rentals helps them spread.

Why are two visits needed?

Bed bug eggs resist insecticides. The second visit, 15 days after the first, kills newly hatched nymphs before they can breed.

What is the difference between chemical and thermal treatment?

Chemical treatment combines insecticides and a growth regulator in two visits. Thermal shock combines extreme cold (−40 °C), high-temperature steam and a natural geraniol-based insecticide: more effective but more expensive, recommended for severe infestations or sensitive occupants.

How should I prepare my home?

Wash sheets, covers and clothes at 60 °C or tumble-dry them hot, then seal them in closed bags. Declutter around beds, vacuum and throw the bag away sealed. Do not move mattresses or furniture to another room. I send you a detailed checklist before the visit.

Do I need to leave during treatment?

During chemical treatment and for a few hours afterwards, yes, while products dry and rooms are aired. I tell you the exact time for your treatment.

Are bed bugs dangerous?

They are not known to transmit disease, but their bites cause itching, skin reactions and poor sleep, and sometimes real distress.

Do you come out in emergencies?

Yes, I come out 7 days a week for bed bugs, especially for holiday rentals between two stays.

Rats and mice

How much does rodent control cost in the Chamonix valley?

From €149 (0–40 m²) to €209 (80–120 m²). Above 120 m², personalised quote. Diagnosis, treatment, travel and a 6-month guarantee are included. An extra visit with Racumin foam, if needed, costs €79.

How do I know if I have rodents?

Droppings along walls, scratching at night in walls or the loft, gnawed cables and packaging, greasy marks along runs, sometimes a smell of urine. Rodents look for the warmth of chalets as soon as it turns cold.

What is the difference between a mouse and a rat?

A mouse is 6–10 cm long (without tail) and leaves droppings of 3–6 mm. A rat is 20–25 cm long and its droppings are 1–2 cm. Mice tend to live in walls and cupboards, rats in cellars, garages and outdoors.

Are bait stations dangerous for my children or dog?

No. Professional stations are locked and inaccessible: only a technician can open them.

How long does it take to get rid of rodents?

Baits work within a few days. It usually takes two to three weeks to eliminate a colony, depending on the infestation. Proofing entry points stops them coming back.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, 6 months. If the rodents come back during that time, I come back and treat free of charge.

Cockroaches

How much does cockroach treatment cost?

From €99 (0–40 m²) to €199 (80–120 m²) for insecticide treatment in two visits. Thermal shock costs €249 to €299 depending on the area. An extra visit, if needed, costs €60. 6-month guarantee included.

How do I know if I have cockroaches?

Insects seen at night, small black droppings like pepper in cupboards and behind appliances, an unpleasant smell in heavy infestations, egg cases (oothecae) in corners.

Where do cockroaches come from?

Pipes, boxes and packaging, neighbouring flats, sometimes luggage. They look for warmth, moisture and food.

How long does it take to get rid of cockroaches?

Two visits 15 days apart kill adults, nymphs and eggs. The population drops sharply in the first few days.

Do you work with businesses?

Yes: restaurants, hotels, food shops. I offer prevention contracts with regular visits and written reports, useful during a food safety inspection.

Bee swarms

Is swarm collection really free?

Yes, for a visible, accessible swarm (a cluster on a branch, fence or wall). For a colony established inside a wall, loft or roof, I give you a quote.

How do I recognise a swarm?

A cluster of bees in a ball on a support, intense coming and going around one point, a sudden arrival of many bees in the garden.

What should I do in the meantime?

Do not disturb the swarm, do not use insecticide, keep children and pets away and call me quickly: a swarm only stays a few hours to a few days before settling.

Other insects

Which other insects do you treat?

Ants, fleas, pantry and clothes moths, silverfish, mosquitoes, spiders, flies, processionary caterpillars and other crawling or flying insects.

How much does it cost?

Every situation is different: I give you a free quote based on the insect, the extent of the infestation, the area and the right method.

How do I know which insect I have?

Send me a photo by email or text message: I will identify it and recommend the right solution.

Quotes and booking

Is the quote free?

Yes, completely free with no obligation. After discussing your situation, I give you a clear, detailed estimate.

How can I get a quote quickly?

The fastest way is to call me on +33 6 46 33 00 39. You can also fill in the contact form or email me with a photo of the pest or nest.

How soon can you come?

Usually within 24 to 48 hours anywhere in the Chamonix valley, and 7 days a week for wasps, hornets and bed bugs.

Do you charge for the diagnosis?

No: the diagnosis is included in the price of the treatment.

Do I need to be there?

For indoor treatment, yes, or someone you trust. For an easily accessible outdoor nest it is not always necessary: we agree on this when booking.

Health, safety and environment

Are the products dangerous for children and pets?

Used by a Certibiocide-certified professional, products are applied in strict doses and in safe areas. I give you all the instructions to follow.

Do you offer eco-friendly treatments?

Yes, whenever possible: plant-based biodegradable powder for nests, cold treatment, thermal shock, mechanical traps, proofing entry points.

How do you limit the impact on wildlife?

I only treat the affected areas, with the right dose of product. Bees are never destroyed: a beekeeper collects them.

Guarantees

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes: 6 months for rodents, cockroaches and bed bugs, and a results guarantee for wasp and hornet nests. The terms are shown on the quote.

Is the second visit included?

Yes, for cockroaches and bed bugs both visits 15 days apart are included in the price.

What happens if the pests come back?

During the guarantee period, I come back and treat free of charge.

Service area

Which towns do you cover?

The whole Chamonix valley: Chamonix-Mont-Blanc and its hamlets (Les Praz, Les Bossons, Argentière, Le Tour…), Les Houches and Taconnaz, Servoz and Vallorcine. Further afield, contact me.

Do you go to hamlets and isolated chalets?

Yes, to every hamlet in the valley. For difficult access, in winter for example, let me know when booking.

Certibiocide

What is Certibiocide?

An official French certification, compulsory for buying and professionally using certain biocidal products (insecticides, rodenticides…). Issued by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, it shows the professional has mastered these products with respect for health and the environment.

Are you Certibiocide certified?

Yes. I hold the Certibiocide and regularly train in new treatment techniques.

How long is Certibiocide valid?

5 years. It must then be renewed.

What is the difference between consumer and professional products?

Professional products are more targeted and more effective, but reserved for certified people. Consumer products often only reach the insects you can see.

Do you offer annual contracts for businesses?

Yes: tailored follow-up contracts for restaurants, bars, hotels, food shops, residences and concierge services, with regular visits adapted to your activity.

Do you provide treatment reports?

Yes. Every visit comes with a written report to keep in your food safety plan and show during an inspection by the French authorities (DDPP).

Do you work in holiday rentals and Airbnbs?

Yes, quickly and discreetly, between two stays if needed, with an unmarked vehicle on request.
